The GridPlus Lattice1 & SafeCards

The team has been quietly grinding away on the GridPlus Lattice1 software and firmware; here’s a glimpse of where everything stands as we prepare for the big launch.

Lattice1 Pairing & Mobile Wallet Demo

Alex Miller shared a new demo this past week covering initial setup of your new Lattice1, pairing your phone, and using the GridPlus Mobile Wallet to send a transaction.

Hardware Development Update

The Lattice1 hardware is 100% finalized and has passed all necessary inspections for sale as a consumer product in The Americas, The European Union, and Singapore with the only remaining regulatory items being administrative. We are working to expand our sales capabilities to additional regions after launch as well.

The firmware is nearly complete and the team is intensely focused on debugging and testing at this stage.

With the final design approved by regulators, we now have all components for our initial run either at our U.S. based contract manufacturer or in transit to their facilities. After launch, this will allow GridPlus the flexibility required to easily scale production in response to demand.

In case you missed it, take a look at this in-depth video featuring Dr. Karl Kreder demonstrating the assembly line process he designed.

We will be announcing a finalized ship date for the batch one presales shortly. Until that date is set in stone all batch two Lattice1 presales will be accepted in crypto only (ETH, BTC, BCH, and LTC). The $200 discount for redeeming GRID is still available.

Once the ship date is set we will reopen sales via traditional payment methods.

Energy

The GridPlus Energy team has been busy in Houston building a new pre-paid product to offer to customers living in the ERCOT region of Texas. They will continue to offer innovative new plans that address the needs of all different market segments. Energy customers in the Oncor and Centerpoint regions of Texas can sign up today and redeem GRID for direct access to wholesale electricity rates (see our website for details).

Additional financial relationships are being explored that will allow GridPlus Energy to significantly scale up the onboarding of new customers in 2020. We look forward to sharing more on this when details are finalized.

Developer Outreach

With release of the hardware imminent we are working closely with developers to integrate the Lattice1 into their projects. There are several ways to leverage the hardware security and ease of use of the Lattice1:

Signing

The Lattice1 sits on your desktop and can sign transactions from your computer via WiFi. There’s no need to connect via USB and with the touchscreen you can easily verify the full transaction details.

If you’re wondering where steps 1 & 2 went you didn’t watch Alex’s video!

You can use our Signing SDK to integrate this functionality anywhere you would connect a hardware wallet.

Direct Touchscreen Access

We plan to offer some popular DeFi tools directly from the Lattice1’s touchscreen to provide users a secure and intuitive way to participate in decentralized finance directly from secure storage without the need for a computer or a phone. If you’re interested in creating a simple interface for your contracts directly on the Lattice1 please get in touch — it should be a light lift!

Package Your Software to Run on the Lattice1

The Lattice1 includes a general compute environment running Linux that is electrically segregated from the secure compute environment. This could allow lightweight software such as a Tor bridge or a state channel hub to benefit from a physically decentralized network of uniform, secure, always-on hardware devices that have a touchscreen interface.

Unlike integrating the Signing SDK, this will take some help from the team but if you think this could benefit your project get in touch and we can discuss whether this is something we could work on together after the hardware is shipped.

Summary

With shipping delays caused by supply chain complexities likely behind us for good, the team is now intensely focused on delivering a secure and smooth day one user experience with the first versions of our hardware and software.

Once the first batch of Lattice1s is in the hands of our early customers we will have a lot of exciting developments to share. We’ll be updating everyone more frequently and can’t wait for you to experience what we’re building!
